SVT Raptor Brake Upgrade
More stopping power with minimal expense!
Time to do brakes on the Raptor and it needed a little better stopping power without breaking the bank or doing a full big brake upgrade. Did this on a 1st Generation – 2011 SVT Raptor with the 6.2L motor. It had about 120,000 miles on the odometer so we swapped out some parts while doing the job. Did some Ford remanufactured calipers, Timken wheel bearings/seals, and new studs/lug nuts. Also threw on an aFe Power rear differential cover for the added capacity and ability to drain for future maintenance.
The rotors and pads are from Disk Brake Australia (DBA) and the stainless steel line from Stop Tech. (part numbers listed below) I opted for the XP pads over the SD pads for the increased stopping power. The XP pads do create a lot of brake dust. Install on brakes was simple. Everything fits in OEM locations and matches factory size. The stainless lines were also an easy installation. Took a few minutes to get them all routed and connected in place but they bolted right up in place of the OEM rubber lines. Finished it all off with some fresh Amsoil synthetics.
The brakes took a few days and maybe 100 miles or so to get fully broke in. Braking power is noticeably better. The combination with the lines and upgraded brakes created a much better pedal feel and added some great stopping power. Great upgrade for any truck looking to improve braking.
UPDATE: At about 20,000 miles the front pads have to be replaced. Since I have been impressed by the performance of this setup I replaced it with the same DBA parts and will continue to do so.
